Established in 2012, TPL is a pioneer insurance sector-specific NGO committed to improving insurance culture in Nigeria.
Our Story
Transparent Protection Limited/Gte (TPL) was founded with a clear mission: to bridge the gap between the potential of Nigeria’s insurance industry and its current reality. Despite a population of over 200 million, less than one percent hold insurance policies, highlighting a significant untapped market. We recognized this disparity and embarked on a journey to promote mass patronage of insurance products while upholding the highest ethical standards.
We are a membership based, insurance sector-specific non-government organisation in Nigeria. TPL was established in 2012 with the aim of helping to address the complex issues of insurance sector underdevelopment in Nigeria.
As a system support organization, TPL seeks to proactively assist both the insurer and insured to more easily understand their rights and obligations in relation to insurance contract, with the objective of protecting the interests of its members and the insuring public.
Over the last seven years, TPL has been in the forefront in demanding for transparency amongst insurance operators and holding the regulators properly accountable. TPL has been undertaking public interest litigation and monitoring policy making for deepening transparency and accountability in the insurance industry.
TPL is currently mobilizing the insuring public at the grassroots for massive patronage of insurance products and timely settlement of genuine claims. Our members are freely assisted through pre-insurance contract advisory consultations and guidance for making claims.
Our Vision
Our vision is to emerge as the preeminent non-governmental organization focused on the insurance sector, spearheading comprehensive development initiatives across Africa. Through strategic partnerships, innovative programs, and relentless advocacy, we aspire to lead the transformation of the insurance landscape, empowering communities, fostering transparency, and ensuring equitable access to insurance products and services continent-wide.
Our Mission
Our mission is to establish and maintain a supportive ecosystem that encourages widespread adoption of insurance products while ensuring prompt and fair resolution of all legitimate claims. Through our initiatives and partnerships, we aim to foster trust, accessibility, and inclusivity within the insurance sector, ultimately enhancing financial security and peace of mind for all stakeholders across Nigeria.
Our Objectives
Our objectives are multifaceted, aimed at increasing insurance awareness, accelerating industry development through collaboration, influencing policy-making, promoting transparency, facilitating promt claim settlement, and providing professional support services.
Our Programs
Our initiatives are structured into three main projects
Law and Insurance Project (LIP)
Offering insurance support services, legal aid, and community mobilization.
Transparent Action Policy Project (TAPP)
Advocating for transparency and good governance through legislative efforts and media campaigns.
Insurance Empowerment Initiative (ISEI)
Building capacity within the insurance industry through research and training programs.
Samuel Chukwuka Onyeka, PhD.
Our Lead Director
Dr. Samuel Chukwuka Onyeka, our Lead Director at Transparent Protection Ltd/Gte, is a seasoned professional with expertise in law, risk management, and compliance.
Holding a PhD in Law and an MBA in Insurance & Risk Management, he brings a wealth of knowledge to our team.
With notable achievements such as establishing the AML/CFT Unit at NAICOM and contributing to Nigeria’s exit from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) “grey list”, Dr. Onyeka’s leadership is invaluable. Now serving as Principal Consultant of ISG Consulting Limited and Chairman of Compliance Publications Limited, his influence extends beyond our organization.
With a track record of excellence and integrity, Dr. Onyeka is a guiding force at Transparent Protection Ltd/Gte.
