Pharm. Wale Oladigbolu, the National Chairman of the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN), has called on the Federal Government to urgently investigate the activities of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
Oladigbolu emphasized that such a probe is crucial to ensuring that the health insurance scheme benefits the broader population rather than a select few.
Addressing the media on Thursday ahead of the 43rd ACPN Annual International Scientific Conference, which will be held at the University of Ibadan Conference Centre from Monday, July 22 to Saturday, July 27, Oladigbolu highlighted the potential of a well-administered NHIS to address major health issues and provide affordable healthcare access for all Nigerians.
“The reality of health insurance in Nigeria is quite dismal. Coverage is poor, with less than five percent of the population covered,” Oladigbolu stated. “Of this, four percent are in the public sector and the remaining one percent in the private sector.”
