The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced plans to commence the enforcement of the Third-Party Motor Insurance policy on all vehicles operating on Nigerian roads starting February 1, 2025.

This decision was revealed by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, during a meeting with the Commissioner for Insurance and Chief Executive Officer of the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), Mr. Olusegun Ayo Omosehin, at the Force Headquarters on January 10, 2025.

A circular issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, detailed the announcement, emphasizing the importance of compliance with the law. It noted that third-party motor insurance is mandated under Section 68 of the Insurance Act and Section 312 of the 1945 Motor Vehicle (Third Party Insurance) Act.

During the meeting, Mr. Omosehin applauded the police for their achievements, including the establishment of the Police Insurance Bank Limited. He highlighted the critical role of the police in enforcing insurance regulations and ensuring compliance with compulsory third-party insurance laws, which offer essential protection for road users.

The IGP underscored the necessity of enforcing these laws to ensure road safety and compliance with insurance regulations, reaffirming the February 1 deadline for enforcement.
