The Africa Insurance Women Association (AIWA) is set to host the International Conference for Women in Insurance from November 2 to 6, 2024, in Lagos. The conference, which will bring together 300 delegates from 11 African countries, aims to address key issues in the insurance industry, with a focus on gender diversity and innovation.

During a press briefing in Lagos, AIWA President Lady Nkechi Moore announced that the event will take place at the Lagos Continental Hotel, Victoria Island. The conference will feature prominent industry figures, including Dr. Awele Elumelu, Chairperson of AVON Healthcare Limited, as the keynote speaker, alongside other notable experts such as Dr. Abba Zakariah, Founder of The Strategist Consortium, and Patty Karuaihe-Martin, CEO of NamibRe and President of the African Insurance Organisation (AIO).
The theme of the conference, “The Future of Insurance: Trends, Challenges, and Opportunities,” aims to bring together policymakers, industry leaders, and innovators to shape a new course for insurance in Africa. According to Lady Moore, discussions will cover a range of critical topics, including the role of technology and innovation, cyber and credit risk protection, and the opportunities provided by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
The conference will culminate in a communique, which will be presented to insurance regulators for adoption and implementation in their respective countries. The Chairperson of the Local Organising Committee, Mrs. Ebelechukwu Nwachukwu, emphasized that the event will inspire and empower women in the insurance sector, and urged those who have not yet registered to do so.
AIWA, founded to promote gender diversity and equal opportunities in the insurance industry, is committed to fostering leadership and inclusive growth. The conference is expected to have a significant impact on making insurance more accessible and innovative across Africa.
