The Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) in London has appointed Dr. Funmi Babington-Ashaye as a goodwill ambassador, representing Nigeria among a distinguished group of professionals worldwide. This prestigious appointment reflects her significant contributions to the insurance industry and her commitment to promoting professional standards within the sector.
The CII’s goodwill ambassadors are qualified and experienced professionals who volunteer their time to support the Institute’s international team. Their role involves advocating for the importance of professional qualifications, sharing best practices, and helping to build public trust in insurance by engaging with local businesses and influencing sector frameworks.

Dr. Babington-Ashaye joins an elite group of ambassadors from various regions, including Rev. Asante Marfo-Ahenkora from Ghana and Gigi Chen from China. Their collective efforts will aid the CII in expanding its global network and enhancing the standards of the insurance profession.
Dr. Funmi Babington-Ashaye FCII, FCIIN, is a seasoned insurance professional and thought leader in Nigeria’s insurance industry. She previously served as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Cornerstone Insurance Plc and NICON Insurance Plc.
An alumna of the Lagos Business School, she is also a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute in both Nigeria and the United Kingdom, as well as the Chartered Institute of Insurance Brokers and the Institute of Directors Nigeria.

In 2017, Dr. Babington-Ashaye made history as the President and Chairman of the Council of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria, the leading body promoting skills development and professional conduct within the industry. Her tenure further solidified her reputation as a leader in the sector.
Beyond her professional achievements, Dr. Babington-Ashaye has received numerous awards, including the Top 50 Women in Insurance in Africa Award from the African Insurance Organisation, the Lagos Female Entrepreneur of the Year 2022 Award by Ikeanumba Magazine, and the Outstanding Women of Ultimate Distinction by ThisDay Newspaper.
She was also named one of Nigeria’s 50 Most Outstanding and Impactful Women in Leadership by The Guardian Newspapers in 2021. In recognition of her contributions to the industry, she holds an honorary Doctorate in Leadership & Community Development from ESAE Benin University and is a Doctoral Fellow of the International Certified Risk Management Professionals, United Kingdom.

Dr. Babington-Ashaye is also a published author, having released her book *Insurance in Practice – All You Need to Know About Insurance in Nigeria* in 2017.
