The Nigerian Agricultural Insurance Corporation (NAIC) has pledged to expedite the settlement of all genuine claims from insured clients impacted by recent floods across the country. In a statement released on Wednesday in Lagos, NAIC’s Managing Director, Mrs. Folashade Joseph, expressed sympathy for the flood victims, emphasizing that the corporation is committed to helping them resume their productive activities swiftly.
“As a caring and responsive organization, I assure our insured clients that their genuine claims will receive the utmost urgent attention to enable them to return to their productive lives,” Joseph stated.

She also highlighted the reality of climate change and urged property and business owners to insure their assets with NAIC to ensure job sustainability, income stabilization, food security, poverty alleviation, and wealth creation.
This commitment follows confirmation from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) that at least 49 people have died, and thousands have been displaced due to heavy rains that caused severe flooding in Northeast Nigeria. NEMA spokesperson Mr. Manzo Ezekiel reported that the states of Jigawa, Adamawa, and Taraba have been particularly hard hit, with 41,344 people displaced.

Ezekiel warned that the situation is dire as the country enters the peak of the rainy season, particularly in the northern regions. He recalled that in 2022, Nigeria experienced its worst flood in over a decade, resulting in over 600 deaths, the displacement of around 1.4 million people, and the destruction of 440,000 hectares of farmland.
The ongoing floods add to the challenges faced by the farming sector, already under strain due to rising food prices and insecurity caused by armed attacks.
