The Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers Lagos Area Committee (NCRIB-LAC) has collaborated with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) to organize a two-day workshop focused on sustainability reporting for insurance brokers and underwriters.
The event, titled “National Workshop on Sustainability Reporting for Insurance Brokers: Issues, Challenges, and the Way Forward,” is taking place in Lagos and also has virtual participation from attendees in Abuja and underwriters from Rex Insurance Limited.

Babatunde Oguntade, President of the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB), commended NCRIB-LAC and ICAN for initiating the workshop, which aims to empower brokers with knowledge essential for business sustainability.
Represented by the Executive Secretary of NCRIB, Tope Adaramola, Oguntade emphasized the importance of the training, especially in the current challenging business environment. He encouraged participants to apply the insights gained from the workshop to enhance their operations.

Ademola Olutusin, Chairman of NCRIB-LAC, expressed his satisfaction with the event’s turnout and highlighted the significance of partnering with reputable organizations like ICAN. He assured that NCRIB-LAC would continue to pursue such collaborations to keep members informed about the latest industry trends.
The workshop also featured presentations from key industry figures. Dr. Lanre Olasukanmi, Registrar of ICAN, discussed the importance of complying with sustainability goals, emphasizing how it can streamline reporting processes, improve access to capital, and enhance decision-making. He urged companies to adopt best practices and integrate technology to remain competitive globally.

Dr. Iheanyi Anyahara, Coordinating Director of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN), provided insights into the Nigerian roadmap for adopting the IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards. He stressed the importance of data in sustainability reporting and encouraged organizations to digitalize their operations and invest in continuous learning to stay ahead.
The workshop, which started today, will conclude tomorrow, providing participants with a comprehensive understanding of sustainability reporting and its critical role in the insurance industry.
