In a significant demonstration of its commitment to workers’ welfare, the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) has awarded N10,588,181.33 to Mr. Afolabi Mudasiru, an employee of Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) Plc, to cover medical expenses resulting from a workplace injury. The compensation aligns with the provisions of the Employees’ Compensation Act (ECA) of 2010.
The cheque was handed over to Ms. Alenke Aik, Chief Human Resources Officer at EKEDC, during a ceremony at the NSITF Lagos Regional Office. Agboma Okoroafor, the Acting Regional Manager, presented the compensation on behalf of the NSITF Managing Director/CEO, Mr. Oluwaseun Mayomi Faleye.
Okoroafor highlighted that the Medical Expenses Refund (MER) is a crucial component of the Employees’ Compensation Scheme, emphasizing the NSITF’s dedication to its mandate. “This payment is a clear indication of our unwavering commitment to the welfare of workers and reflects our shared values in making a positive impact on employees’ lives,” she stated.
She also commended EKEDC for its compliance with the ECA 2010, noting the company’s consistent and timely contributions to the scheme, which have been recognized by the NSITF management.
Ms. Aik, in her response, expressed gratitude to NSITF for the prompt handling of the compensation. She explained that Mr. Mudasiru sustained injuries in July 2022 after falling from a height while performing his duties. She reiterated EKEDC’s commitment to its employees, stressing that the company contributes one percent of its monthly payroll to NSITF in line with the ECA 2010, reflecting its responsibility towards employee well-being.
