The outgoing president of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN), Edwin Igbiti, emphasized the critical role traditional institutions play in insurance penetration at the grassroots level. Speaking during his Valedictory Speech as the 51st president of CIIN over the weekend, Igbiti highlighted the necessity of soliciting the support and participation of these institutions in the Institute’s programs and activities.

“We organized several conferences and training sessions to develop the skills of professionals in delivering quality services to their clients. This is believed to aid insurance penetration,” Igbiti said.
Under his leadership, CIIN focused on boosting insurance awareness among the populace. The Institute utilized all its platforms, both social and educational, to promote the benefits of insurance as a profession and service.

“Our noteworthy programs, including the Insurance Professionals’ Forum, Secondary School Quiz Competition, Nite of Talents, Family Picnic, Fitness Walk, Ramadan Tafsir, Bootcamp, Christmas Carol, and Elders’ Forum, functioned as effective mediums to encourage insurance as a lifestyle. These events provided top-of-mind awareness to insurance stakeholders and the general public,” Igbiti noted.
He also mentioned the international executive program held in Frankfurt, Germany, as part of their efforts to create global awareness.
Igbiti urged industry stakeholders to passionately support CIIN’s programs and encourage vibrant insurers to participate. He added that these programs showcased the intellectual capabilities of the next generation of insurance practitioners.
As Igbiti concludes his term, his efforts have laid a solid foundation for the continued growth and awareness of insurance across Nigeria.
