The Urhobo Women Wing has urged the Delta State Government to investigate health personnel charging fees despite the presentation of health insurance cards. The appeal came during an event where 300 indigent Urhobo women received health insurance cards sponsored by philanthropist John Nani at the Urhobo Cultural Centre in Okere.
Mrs. Rose Oghene, President of the Urhobo Women Wing, voiced concerns about staff at health facilities continuing to impose charges for various services. She called on the state government to address these issues and ensure that insured women receive the promised free healthcare.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the Director General/CEO of the Delta State Contributory Health Commission were praised by Oghene for their commitment to improving healthcare access through the health insurance initiative.
Dr. Isaac Akpoveta, who spoke at the event, acknowledged Mr. John Nani’s contribution and emphasized the state’s goal to achieve Universal Health Coverage by 2030, as outlined in SDG 3. He described the Indigent Enrollee Adoption Initiative as a means for prominent individuals to support vulnerable populations by funding their health insurance premiums.
Akpoveta addressed the challenge of complaints about service charges, noting that while isolated issues are expected, they will be addressed promptly. He assured that all registered individuals should receive free healthcare services and emphasized the commission’s ongoing efforts to ensure that health centers are properly aligned with the scheme’s goals.
