Insurance agents have voiced strong concerns regarding the new licensing portal recently introduced by the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM). The portal, unveiled on August 1, 2024, was designed to streamline the registration and renewal processes for insurance agents, with the aim of reducing manual intervention and expediting the licensing procedure.
However, agents have reported several issues with the new system. They argue that their inputs were not considered during the development of the portal, leading to significant omissions. Specifically, the portal fails to include the Association of Registered Agents of Nigeria (ARIAN) certificate/receipt as a mandatory requirement for registration and licensing. This omission, agents claim, could allow unqualified individuals to access agency business and deprive ARIAN of essential revenue from membership registrations.

Furthermore, agents have reported difficulties in completing their renewal and licensing processes through the new portal, which has not resolved the challenges they previously faced. This has led to frustration among agents, some of whom are considering opportunities in other fields due to the unresolved issues with the portal.
NAICOM had promoted the portal as a solution to streamline licensing processes. The Commission had instructed that all pending applications from the old portal be resubmitted through the new system and advised all registered agents and insurance companies to adhere to this directive.

The concerns and dissatisfaction expressed by insurance agents underscore the need for NAICOM to address these issues promptly to ensure the portal meets the needs of all stakeholders.
