Stakeholders in Nigeria’s insurance sector gathered in Lagos to celebrate the achievements of Mr. Olusegun Omosehin, the immediate past Chairman of the Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA), and Mrs. Yetunde Ilori, the outgoing Director-General of the NIA. The event, organized by the NIA, highlighted the significant contributions of both leaders to the growth and development of the insurance industry.
During the ceremony, Mr. Tope Smart, Chairman of NEM Insurance Plc, praised Omosehin’s professionalism and dedication. “He is very professional, very hardworking. He is a man of integrity who is very passionate about the industry. He excelled everywhere he worked and dedicated virtually everything to his work,” Smart stated.
Smart also commended Ilori for her transformative impact on the industry, particularly noting the construction of the NIA building. “The NIA building has really changed the face of the insurance industry in Nigeria. Professionals from outside the country were impressed and decided to replicate what we have done here. Kudos to Ilori,” he added.
Mr. Babatunde Oguntade, President of the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers, lauded the achievements of both leaders. He emphasized Omosehin’s inclusive approach, urging collaboration across the insurance sector. “Omosehin is the Commissioner for all. We need to collaborate for the industry’s growth,” Oguntade said.
Mrs. Ebelechukwu Nwachukwu, Deputy Chairman of NIA, also applauded the duo, highlighting their impactful contributions to the industry.
The ceremony, tagged “Celebration of Double-Edge Excellence,” was held in Lekki, Lagos, and was well-attended by insurance company CEOs and brokers. The event celebrated Omosehin’s new role as the Commissioner for Insurance at the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) and Ilori’s forthcoming position as President of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN).
Speaking at the event, Omosehin expressed gratitude to his colleagues and stakeholders, urging them to prioritize the industry’s advancement. “Let us be deliberate in taking this industry forward. The story of the insurance industry has not yet been told, and the decision to change our story must be deliberate. Please, make the insurance industry your priority when taking decisions,” Omosehin said.
Ilori thanked her family, friends, and colleagues for their support throughout her tenure. “You brought the best out of me. Thank you all for supporting me,” she expressed.
Mr. Kunle Ahmed, Chairman of NIA, spoke on behalf of the insurance CEOs, praising the leadership of Omosehin and Ilori. “Mr. Omosehin and Mrs. Ilori have been a beacon of inspiration, guiding us through challenges and triumphs with unwavering dedication and visionary leadership. Under their stewardship, our Association has reached new heights, achieved significant milestones, and set a solid foundation for future success,” Ahmed remarked.
As Omosehin and Ilori embark on their new roles at NAICOM and CIIN, respectively, the industry anticipates continued growth and innovation under their leadership.
