Insurance Sector Deepens Engagement with Aviation Industry at High-Level Abuja Meeting

The Nigerian insurance and aviation industries took steps toward stronger collaboration in a high-level meeting held yesterday at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja. The event was chaired by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace, Festus Keyamo SAN, and was attended by the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, as well as senior officials and lawmakers including Senate Committee Chairman on Banking, Insurance, and Financial Institutions Sen. Munkhail Abiru and House Committee Chairman on Insurance and Actuarial Matters Hon. Ahmed Jaha.

The meeting brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC), Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA), Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers, and the Airline Operators of Nigeria. The gathering underscored the sectors’ commitment to enhancing insurance coverage in aviation, improving regulatory frameworks, and supporting sustainable growth for both sectors.

In his opening remarks, Minister Keyamo expressed appreciation for the stakeholders’ participation, noting that the session marked an essential step forward for the Nigerian insurance market and the operational efficiency of airline operators. The discussion emphasized the necessity of effective insurance for the aviation sector and the benefits of closer ties between the two industries.

To further these efforts, stakeholders agreed on a broader meeting set for early next year with international lessors and financiers, aiming to foster additional global partnerships and attract foreign investment to Nigeria’s aviation and insurance sectors.
