Mr. Edwin F. Igbiti, the 51st President and Chairman of the Council of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN), delivered a heartfelt valedictory speech at the Insurers House, 42, Saka Tinubu Street, Victoria Island, marking the end of his two-year tenure.
Expressing deep gratitude, Mr. Igbiti acknowledged the unwavering support he received throughout his presidency. He credited his success to divine blessings and the support of his wife and family. He extended his appreciation to the Immediate Past Commissioner for Insurance, Mr. Olorundare Sunday Thomas, and the current Commissioner for Insurance, Mr. Olusegun Ayo Omosehin, as well as to the CIIN Governing Council members, industry leaders, and the Institute’s staff.

Reflecting on his presidency, themed “Building a Sustainable Legacy,” Mr. Igbiti highlighted significant achievements aimed at ensuring continuity and strengthening the Institute’s professionalism and ethical standards. Among the key accomplishments were the digital transformation of the Institute’s operations, including the launch of e-membership cards and enhanced online platforms for members, both domestic and international. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Institute successfully adapted to hybrid working models, ensuring seamless service delivery.
Under Mr. Igbiti’s leadership, insurance awareness initiatives flourished. The Institute leveraged various platforms to educate the public, particularly targeting grassroots communities, youth, and the broader insuring public. Notable programs included the Insurance Professionals’ Forum, Secondary School Quiz Competitions, and various community engagement events. These efforts were complemented by the publication of insurance-related journals and textbooks, distributed to secondary schools and tertiary institutions across Nigeria and beyond.

Mr. Igbiti emphasized the importance of infrastructural and personal development within the Institute. Significant progress was made in renovating the CIIN Secretariat and advancing the Victoria Island property project. He underscored the critical role of human infrastructure, highlighting strategic partnerships with government officials and traditional institutions to promote insurance awareness and advocacy.
Concluding his address, Mr. Igbiti pledged his continued commitment to the CIIN and expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to lead the Institute. He extended heartfelt thanks to all who supported him during his tenure, affirming that the experiences and achievements of his presidency would remain cherished memories.
