The Nigerian National Bureau of the ECOWAS Brown Card Insurance Scheme has announced the successful completion of a strategic working visit by its Secretary General and CEO, Mr. Raphael Abiiba, to the Permanent General Secretariat in Lome, Togo. The visit, which also involved interactions with the national bureaux of Ghana, Togo, and Benin Republic, aimed to strengthen collaboration and enhance the effectiveness of the ECOWAS Brown Card Insurance Scheme.

The ECOWAS Brown Card Insurance Scheme is essential for facilitating smooth cross-border vehicular movements and protecting road users across the ECOWAS region. Under the leadership of Chairman Mr. Kunle Ahmed, the Nigerian National Bureau has been committed to initiatives that promote regional integration and operational efficiency.
During his visit, Mr. Abiiba held high-level discussions with key stakeholders in Lome to review current projects, discuss future strategies, and explore innovative solutions to improve the scheme. The conversations focused on enhancing the operational framework, addressing existing challenges, and utilizing technological advancements to streamline processes. A key topic was the verification of the Automated Brown Card, where solutions have been implemented to resolve issues faced by motorists with enforcement officers.

Mr. Abiiba’s meetings with the national bureaux of Ghana, Togo, and Benin were crucial in deepening cooperation among these member states. A significant outcome was an agreement with the Benin National Bureau for a joint stakeholder engagement, aimed at educating stakeholders on the challenges faced by motorists at the borders of the two countries.
Reflecting on the visit, Mr. Abiiba emphasized the importance of strengthening relationships with the Permanent General Secretariat and national bureaux to enhance operational synergy and ensure the scheme’s success in promoting regional integration and safety.
