NEMA’s July report anticipates increased flooding across 33 states from August through October, prompting the agency to urge all sectors to begin preparations immediately. He referenced the 2022 flood disaster, the worst in decades, which caused approximately $9.12 billion in direct economic damages according to the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and estimates from the Federal Government and the World Bank.
The extensive damage from the 2022 floods affected residential and non-residential buildings, businesses, households, public infrastructure, and disrupted agricultural sectors, emphasizing the financial and social impacts of such disasters.
